Lostine’s Title
Go hunting. Go hunting without expectations. Go hunting and you will see new places in a new way – and best of all, you will think thoughts you won’t forget.
In north-eastern Oregon, along Oregon highway 82, where you cross the Lostine River, there is a little town called Lostine. There are six houses, an espresso stand, two horses, and a highway sign that says LOSTINE.
I saw that sign. I saw that town in that wild setting – the ancient wintering grounds of Joseph and his Nez Perce. I saw that sign and it was obvious to me that Lostine had been a pioneer woman. I decided right then, looking out that car window that “Wow! She must have been something!”
I had to create a feminine character who lived up to a legend.
